Deadline: Early 2007: Call or email for more details.
For our special issue on Feminism and Happiness, we are looking for manuscripts
of 500 to 2,000 words.
Here are some aspects of the issue you might want to consider:
* What would happiness look like in a feminist world?
* What about being a feminist makes you happy? What about being a feminist
makes you less happy?
* How can we incorporate a feminist model for happiness into our feminist
theory and practice?
* How does feminism strive to make the world and people happier?
* What does it mean to be happy? What is the difference between happiness
and short-term pleasure? What kinds of happiness are there?
* Is happiness an important goal of feminists? Should it be?
* What do women in particular need to be happy?
* How do you combine a need for personal well-being with a political awareness
of injustice all over the world? If you are happy, is it just because
you are not paying attention?
* How is feminism and feminist theory used in ways that diminish women
being happy?
* Has happiness been overlooked by feminists and if so, why?
* What aspects of patriarchy are most destructive of womens happiness?
* Would having a national happiness index, and related policies aimed
at
increasing happiness, benefit women? (Several nations are working on such
an index.)
* How would Womens Studies change if womens happiness became
a central
concern?
* If you have ever been on antidepressants, what was your experience?
Are women too frequently prescribed antidepressants? Do antidepressants
make women happy?
* Do some pleasures have a kickback, and actually end up making
us less
happy?
* What is the relationship of womens happiness to: spirituality,
food/diet, being in a community of women, meaningful work or lack of,
age, culture,marriage/singlehood, motherhood
